South Square Centre is pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding from the Coop Foundation through their Space to Connect partnership with the Department of Media, Sport and Culture. The fund is designed to help communities tackle loneliness by improving and protecting local spaces that bring people together. Read more about the funding here.
We are also pleased to be selected again as one of three Coop Local Causes for the upcoming round of the scheme, beginning in October 2019. The Coop Local Community Fund enables local causes to be awarded funding from 1% of Thornton residents purchase of Coop branded products and money from purchases of 5p carrier bags. You can nominate us to have your share of funding by logging into your coop account online.
This scheme enables new members to support the centre and offers reduced hire rates and an opportunity to exhibit.
You do not have to be an artist to become a friend of South Square, and your support will help us provide community exhibitions, events and workshops alongside our contemporary arts programme.
Information on how to become a friend of the square can be found here.
South Square wins National Lottery Support!
We have been awarded £87k Development funding by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help South Square progress our plans to apply for a full National Lottery grant in 2020. This is in addition to the £125k award from Garfield Weston’s Anniversary Fund for building repairs. The flurry of good news is an incredible confidence boost!
This will enable us to obtain planning permission for essential improvements including a new roof, windows and a new entranceway, with the total project costing just over £1million. It will also enable the delivery of numerous traineeships, community, heritage and arts activities and events.
