Event Details

Outside of the Square
Exhibition Opening Party with Live Music: Friday 05 April 6-9pm
Exhibition Continues until Sunday 02 May 2019

Outside of the Square brings together an exhibition exploring women’s role in the textile industry in Bradford. Starting at South Square where many members of the community have previously held roles in the industry. This exhibition will feature local examples of vibrant point paper patterns, created for the Jacquard looms which were used widely across Bradford. During the month of March, participatory artworks have been created in conjunction with International Women’s Day activities and will be presented in the gallery alongside contemporary artist responses to these repetitive and beautiful artworks to which the original artworkers often remain unknown.

ALSO SHOWING:

Nikki Sheen & Caroline Hepworth ‘Something Matter’s – Unit 9

Something matters, something returns, repeatedly, a shape, a form, a material, an image. Something inconsequential, glimpsed in passing, provokes a bodily response.
Something ignored, overlooked or forgotten calls on us once again. The meaning of these re-remembered objects, curiously unknown, draws us forward once again into exploration.
