Colourful artworks by Yorkshire women

South Square Centre presents an exhibition of vibrant female artists from West Yorkshire working in print, paint, illustration and mixed media. We present works by some emerging artists such as; Hannah Toehill, Hannah Lock and Xanthe Bonsall as well as paint and mixed media works by Barbara Young and Heather Boxall.

We are pleased to welcome Bradford Community Cinemas to South Square Centre and would like you to join us for their launch event. Founded in Clayton, and now hosting community film screenings in Thornton and Greenmoor, Bradford Community Cinemas have been working with David Wilson at UNESCO Bradford City of Film in developing a community cinema model with aims to roll out across the whole of Bradford District.

South Square is a collection of 19th Century workers cottages, in the old Yorkshire village of Thornton, famous for its Brontë connections and its impressive 20-arch viaduct.

Renovated as a community arts centre in 1982, South Square Centre is now home to ten studio spaces for a variety of artists, as well as a gallery, community spaces, archive, fine art framers, bar and a cafe.

The centre hosts community events and activities for all ages, including an ongoing workshop programme and provides community spaces available to hire.
