Call for Applications from Emerging Artists

As a tribute to the memory of Joan Day, a highly skilled painter who lived and worked in the West Yorkshire region for much of her life, South Square Gallery is pleased to offer an annual bursary to support an emerging artist to exhibit new and recent work in the gallery. 

South Square Centre is committed to exhibiting work from emerging artists; artwork which is relevant to the heritage of the local area; and artwork that stimulates discussion around local topics of interest for Thornton and Bradford. Applications are open to emerging artists from a wide range of backgrounds. South Square are interested in offering artists an opportunity to develop work towards a solo exhibition, who may have not done so before. 

Emerging artists working primarily in paint are invited to apply for an exhibition in October 2019 with an opening event on Friday 4th October 6-9pm.  

A bursary of £500 will be awarded to assist with the costs of preparing and installing the work.

· Covering letter – explaining what you would gain from this opportunity and how your work relates to the region. (500 words max)

· Artist’s statement (300 words max)

· Documentation of previous work

· CV (2 sides max)

Full time students are not eligible, however we welcome applications from final year students due to graduate. Priority will be given to artists based in Yorkshire.
