Brontë Blue Plaque Launch

South Square is committed to promoting Thornton as the birthplace of the Brontë sisters, through education and outreach.

A long-time in the pipeline, a blue plaque was  produced to honour the sisters contribution to literature to be installed at the Brontë Birthplace.

South Square was pleased to be part of the event, alongside local stewart and instigator Michael Stewart, organiser and owner of the birthplace Mark De Luca, and Bradford Civic Society.

The plaque was unveiled by Michael Stewart and Ann Dinsdale, curator at the Brontë Parsonage Museum.

South Square hosted a post-launch event at the centre including a performance from Magpahi, and a reading from Michael Stewart’s ‘Walking The Invisible’

The event was attended by over 150 people at the birthplace, and close to 100 attended the event at South Square including local residents, Bradford Civic Society members and Brontë enthusiasts.

With thanks from Morrisons for their generous contribution to the fund for the plaque.
