Fall, leaves, fall

Debs Wrekon has taken inspiration from the changing seasons of Thornton and the village’s very own Emily Brontë to create this new light sculpture. This artwork celebrates our local natural heritage, bringing together many landmarks and landscapes of Thornton with lines from Brontë’s poem ‘Fall, Leaves, Fall’.

Commissioned by South Square, Amongst the Briers is made of recycled metal and is lit using an environmentally friendly LED light.

Debs Wrekon is a self-taught metal worker who uses scrap metal and other found objects to create work that ranges in size from sculptural jewelry to structures several metres tall.

We launched ‘Fall, Leaves, Fall’ on the 27 November 2022 at a bustling community event event featuring music and mulled wine.

Fall, leaves, fall

By Emily Brontë

Fall, leaves fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day;
Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from an autumn tree.
I shall smile when wreaths of snow
Blossom where the rose should grow;
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in a drearier day.
