Following on from the South Square’s successful building refurbishment in 2021, we were pleased to secure further funding to introduce secondary glazing for 97 sash windows, from Cooperative, National Lottery and Sir George Martin Trust.
Installed in November 2021, this made our historic building more energy efficient and warmer for visitors and all our studio holders.
During February and March 2022 we began Phase 2 of the Capital Works.
We made significant improvements to South Square’s accessibility and we were pleased to be working with Dobson Construction to reconfigure the existing toilets to include an accessible toilet, family baby change and introduce an external stone ramp.
We brought the main gallery downstairs, creating a new front entrance. This now means that the café, bar, gallery and toilets are visible and accessible from South Square’s courtyard
The access works were made possible by Bradford Council’s Capital Access Fund and National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Everyone at South Square would like to say a big thank you to National Lottery players and also to Yvonne Deane Associates for supporting us!
The new gallery was launched in April 2022 with ‘Expanded Conciousness’ an exhibition by BA Visual Arts students from Bradford College of Art.
