After the announcement in March, although necessary, we were disappointed to have to postpone our regular sessions with Rose Cottage care home funded by The Brelms Trust CIO.
Once we determined it was safe, we found a way to continue visiting residents at Rose Cottage. South Square held a series of outdoor performances, from the Rose Cottage garden. On Wednesdays in the warmer months of 2020 and 2021, residents get ready in the conservatory to see the visiting musician or performer. We’ve had some dance and movement sessions from Bryony Pritchard and Chemaine Cooke, plus music from local musicians Andy Abbott, Toby Brazier, Ian Tothill, Lucy Barker, Gerrard Bell-Fife, Kiera Coldwell, Bella Gaffney and Henry Parker. Plus, Heritage Activity Assistant Chloe devised a reminiscence session all about ‘The Traditional Sweet Shop’ which was a sensory stroll back in time to Thornton’s sweet shops. Rose Cottage have also hosted artists sessions to create window displays for both Rememberance Day and Thornton’s Winter Festival.
