Our Past, Present and Future
10th October 2025 – 1st February 2026
A reflective and celebratory exhibition tracing the roots, growth, and vibrant
future of Bradford’s visual arts scene, with South Square at its heart. This
exhibition invites us to reflect on the artists, educators, and community
movements that have shaped Bradford’s creative identity, and how this all led to the opening of South Square.
Past: We explore the history of Bradford School of Arts, spotlighting two
pioneering lecturers whose legacy still echoes in the city’s creative spirit. We uncover how South Square started, and delve into our rich archive.
Present: What does South Square stand for today? We offer an inside look at our evolving mission, our role in the local arts ecology, and our proud role in launching OUR TURN: Bradford’s first Visual Arts Festival — a bold step
forward for a new era of art.
Future: We turn the spotlight on the next generation of Bradford’s artists –
emerging voices and fresh ideas. This section celebrates new work, fosters
potential, and lays the groundwork for the future of visual arts in the region.
Artwork on display was commissioned by South Square Centre and produced by Eve Wright, Kenndey Drake, Martha Madden and Zoë Maxwell. Jessica Faradoon was selected as Student Artist in Residence and created work in response to the exhibition.
