As a climber as well as a painter John Allcock has engaged with Almscliffe Crag for
more than forty years. Its form and changing atmosphere have provided a
source of both challenge and inspiration, and his recurrent engagement with
“God’s own crag” has become something of an obsession.
This exhibition sets out to convey a distinctive sense of place, through the diversity of John’s work in a variety of media, capturing also something of his enduring preoccupation with Almscliffe.
