Unit 9 Gallery exhibition.

An exhibition of paintings in which John Allcock reviews the varying ways in which trees have inspired his work over two decades.

John Allcock writes: “Trees have been occasional visitors to my art ever since this
became my primary activity in 2001. An unplanned visit to Bradgate Country Park in
Leicestershire in the summer of 2023, changed that.

Oak trees many centuries old were not simply objects to be painted. They were making a statement to which I was compelled to attend. In response, I found that they were able to suggest an interpretative voice through which my own untold stories might be heard. This
dramatic experience has persuaded me to look back at my earlier encounters with
trees and re-evaluate them.”

A founder member of the Unit 9 group, John has exhibited widely, particularly in the
North of England, but also with the Pastel Society in London.
