Former head of Learning Resources at Leeds College of Art, local artist Jennie Crawford completed her MA in Fine Art at Bradford College.
Much of her work has been carried out around the village of Fairbourne at the estuary of the Mawddach river in mid Wales, where she has a cabin. She works mainly with material found on site, for example mud, sand and stones.
With rising water levels, the village is threatened by the sea and on the landward side, the levees will not be able to protect the village from flood. A decision has been made to leave the village to the sea, compelling the population to continue their journey “elsewhere”
Jennie Crawford is inspired by site specific locations of interest, for example Goit Stock Woods in Bradford. Found materials from the site were used to record the waterfall on raw canvas.
