South Square Centre received National Lottery Heritage Fund Phase 2 funding to undertake capital refurbishment of the Grade II workers cottages! Take a tour through the centres unseen spaces and hear about how the building was carefully restored.

South Square Centre is a grade II listed building, set in former workers cottages, the building has a unique U-shaped courtyard, which is one of the last surviving examples in the area. The centre was renovated as a community centre in 1982, following a period of dereliction. The centre was transformed into community spaces, galleries, artist studios, bar, café and local history archive. Today, following investment from NHLF capital, the centre has gained a Capital Asset Transfer from Bradford council, securing the buildings future and making the centre warm, dry and safe for the next 99 years.

To celebrate the centre’s 40th birthday, we have brought together over 120 artists who have previously exhibited at South Square Centre, to exhibit in our largest ever salon exhibition. The exhibition takes place over 4 rooms, with artists from the centre’s four decades supporting emerging artists.
