Meet the Artists
June Russell: Sun 22nd Jan
Ian Burdall: Sun 5th Feb
Cath Brooke: Sun 19th Feb
Exhibition by June Russell with guests Ian Burdall and Cath Brooke. Artwork will include prints, paintings, drawings and photographs.
The Teeside Steelworks once formed a continuous stretch along the south bank of the River Tees between Middlesbrough and Redcar. At its height there were 91 blast furnaces within a 10-mile radius of the area.
By the end of the 1970’s only one remained – the Redcar blast furnace, which was the second largest in Europe.
It closed in 2015, but remained and iconic landmark on the Teeside skyline until 23rd November 2022, when it was demolished in a controlled explosion.
This exhibition is a homage and fond farewell to this massive, beautiful structure and the surrounding area.
June Russell is a painter and fine art printmaker based in Bradford. Her studio is located in South Square. She has a particular interest in the relationship between people and the places in which they live and work.
Ian Burdall is a multi disciplinary artist. Concentrating on colour, shape and line in his chosen mediums – photography and paint.
Cath Brooke studied Fine Art in Newcastle upon Tyne where her interest in industrial spaces began during sketching trips to Swan Hunter shipyard on the River Tyne. Her images focus on the changing industrial landscapes of the North and ways in which nature responds.
