Join us in making a unique piece of art for the South Square garden.
Newcastle based designer Ellie Mone, is making a stained glass artwork of the Thornton viaduct. Watch her make the 20 arches and try out cutting glass and lead.
Friday 6th August, 10.30-3pm Ellie will be in the garden making the artwork. Come and watch her in action, and ask her questions about her practice.
Saturday 7th August 1-4pm Come and make your own stained glass viaduct arch to take home. Limited to 6 places. Booking essential.
Ellie studied 3D Design at Northumbria university, Newcastle and specialised in Furniture design with an emphasis on colour and materials. She’s always enjoyed the vibrant colours in stained glass windows and decided that lockdown was the perfect time to make stained glass herself.

South Square Garden
South Square is a collection of 19th Century workers cottages, in the old Yorkshire village of Thornton, famous for its Brontë connections and its impressive 20-arch viaduct.
Renovated as a community arts centre in 1982, South Square Centre is now home to ten studio spaces for a variety of artists, as well as a gallery, community spaces, archive, fine art framers, bar and a cafe.
The centre hosts community events and activities for all ages, including an ongoing workshop programme and provides community spaces available to hire.
