A roundtable discussion broadcast online to reconnect with some of the people who were involved in South Square centre in the early 80s. This discussion is part one of three and will focus on the exciting large scale themed fancy dress parties, events and parades that were hosted in the early years of South Square as an arts centre – including: Titanic (1984), Paris Thornton (1985) and China Town (1986).
In January 2020 the community asset transfer of the building was completed, securing the space for the next 99 years! As we plan for the future, it is the perfect moment to look back and reflect on the beginnings of the Centre, when the Grade II listed workers cottages were rescued from demolition and transformed into the arts-led community centre we have today.
Future conversation topics will cover the gallery programme & artist studios as well as the origins of South Square as an organisation & the Manpower services scheme.
The conversation will take place on Zoom and be available to watch and interact with via an online stream on Facebook Live.
