Weave A Scarf in a Day

Create an original handwoven scarf at this beginners weaving workshop.

A perfect opportunity to design and make a totally unique gift or a fabulous treat for yourself.

Previous participant reviews:

“Fantastic day. Anne was a very knowledgable and patient tutor and because there were only 6 participants she could give us all the 1 to 1 attention we needed. Lovely venue at South Square, Thornton with a fab veggie cafe. Delighted with my finished scarf. Highly recommended”

“l had a great day, lovely and relaxed l would do the course again as a refresher. Cafe was excellent as well, great food”

Workshop Details:

In this beginners workshop you will be weaving on Ashford looms which are suitable for those new to weaving – the most difficult part of this workshop will be selecting your yarns from the sumptuous selection available.

You could weave with a snugly, soft, shade dyed yarn, or go wild and create a crazy colourful scarf, the choice is yours!

You will be expertly guided through designing your scarf, preparing the loom and weaving by Central Saint Martins trained weaver Anne Crowther.

All materials provided.

Six looms available, small group size, book early!

The workshop begins at 10am and we’ll finish around 4 – 4.30pm

Plenty at the Square will be open serving coffee, cakes and lunch. We advise pre-ordering lunch when you arrive from the cafe.

The groups are warm and friendly where nobody is left behind – all abilities welcome.

Workshop Leader – Anne Crowther

I trained at Central Saint Martins, London and graduated with a first class degree in woven textiles in the early ‘90s

Inspired by the natural environment, I worked with plant dyes and fibres to create tensions and contrasts in the woven structures I formed  –  an area of handweaving which I found fascinating and focused on repeatedly.

As Textile Fellow at the Yorkshire Craft Centre,  I continued to explore woven structures and also began to explore the addition of stitched and cut work. Motifs and natural forms, inspired by the Bradford Textile Archive collection, were stitched and cut away to reveal the weaving beneath. I found that the contrast of the woven structure with the stitched and cut surface created a delicate pattern quality and transparency.  These techniques continue to be a focus in my current Flower Garden artworks.
