After the success of Winter Windows 2019, we thought that 2020 gave the perfect opportunity for Winter Windows to return.
This year, Heritage Activity Trainee Chloe Moreton, took the idea and ran with it. Chloe was inspired by a photo of a Thornton lamplighter from our archive.
We produced over 100 make-at-home lantern kits inspired by the image, sent out to the school, children’s home, local businesses and across the village.
This year a record 47 individuals decorated their windows in designs which celebrated the village. In a socially distanced launch we gave out maps and warm drinks from South Square and families were able to explore the village lights at their own pace.
The project also involved Sapgate Gardens, Thornton Community Centre and St James Church as part of the light trail. The project saw 1040 people visit the light trail over the week which it was available to view.
With thanks to Bradford Metropolitan District Council for their LIT funding as a contribution to this event.

Renovated as a community arts centre in 1982, South Square Centre is now home to ten studio spaces for a variety of artists, as well as a gallery, community spaces, archive, fine art framers, bar and a cafe.
The centre hosts community events and activities for all ages, including an ongoing workshop programme and provides community spaces available to hire.
