Thornton By Post

Thornton By Post is a series of remotely delivered co-produced magazines aimed at Thornton’s elderly population based on aspects of Thornton’s heritage. Each magazine was delivered with basic collage and art materials and images from Thornton Antiquarian Society Archive. Responses were collected in the form of stories and poetry to be published into the following magazine, as well as quizzes, games and artwork prompts designed by Rosie McAndrew using imagery from Thornton Archive.

The magazines along with creative packs were delivered to residents in supported living in Thornton; Headrow Court and Thornfield Hall. With each issue we decided to increase the number of magazines we printed in order to expand the reach of the project. Including delivering to neighbouring Alan Court independent living scheme and increasing the output to deliver 200 copies to local homes. We increased this for the final zine and did targeted drops within the community; children’s home, gala committee, church food bank and more, totalling over 400 copies distributed.

We have received funding from The Brelms Trust CIO and we were also granted funding from BMDC’s Response funding. It enabled us to quickly respond to the crisis, getting a project off the ground quickly after we had gone into lockdown. Displayed here as some of our favourite pages from the zines, designed by Rosie McAndrew.
