Our staff and volunteers took part in a Lime Stone Mortar Mixing workshop run by Dobsons to enable us to learn about the processes involved in building conservation.
During the last 8 months, Dobsons have drilled out the existing concrete mortar and replaced this with lime stone mortar. This means that now the building and the pointing is able to breathe and erode together naturally.
Tom from Dobsons showed us the recipe for the mortar and then took our staff to the east wing to put the final touches on the remaining bits of pointing. We were pleased to be able to finish off part of the building ourselves!
Activities Assistant Chloe put together this video of our workshop.
