Community Outreach 2022

As the nights drew in for Winter 2022, South Square facilitated a program of creative workshops with local sheltered accommodation and care homes. This important programme helps alleviate social isolation whilst giving people to opportunity to take part in creative experiences that delight and educate.

Reconnecting over a mosaic masterclass led by multi disciplinary artists Jessica Swift, the residents created colourful glass coasters to use in their room. Some residents chose to give them as gifts at Christmastime. In December Jess facilitated a seasonal clay bauble workshop which culminated with a small gathering of residents who helped decorate the communal room as part of the Thornton Winter Window Trail. The sessions were complimented with seasonal music, mince pies, sherry and a large amount of laughter and fun.

The residents marvelled at how simple their activities were and some people asked to keep the remainder of the materials, so they could develop their practice and introduce to younger family members.

South Square prides itself on working with communities that find accessing local organisations difficult and we always look forward to catching up with new and familiar faces. The stories and life experiences people share are always fascinating and it’s a real privilege to be able to hear them. We are told that the residents enjoy our activities and we are always welcomed back.

These workshops were offered to approx 80 residents in the village and over 30% took part. These workshops are kindly funded by The Brelms Trust CIC.
