International Women’s Day is a yearly celebration of empowerment, equality and reclaiming space.
South Square wanted to mark the occasion with a celebration of local women. The project entitled ‘Fierce Women’ enabled connection, education and a platform to exchange stories. We wanted to give the trail blazers, warriors, silent heroes and pillars of strength a voice to reclaim their space and shine on.
The images were exhibited at Café West in Spring 2022. An accompanying brochure was designed and printed by fierce women from Bradford and photographed by Ruxx Naqvi.
Special thanks went to Cllr Bev Mullaney, Chris Comey, Alex Dilger, Sabiha Hussain. The project was made possible by funding from Bradford Council.
‘She has a look,
at times, of a thing
made out of fire
and air, at which
I stand and marvel.’
– Charlotte Brontë, Shirley.
Over 200 Brochures were printed and distributed and upwards of 500 people saw the outdoor gallery.
