Mindful May is a highly anticipated event in South Square’s community calendar. Into its fourth year, coinciding with Mental Health awareness week. Mindful May offered an opportunity to try out alternative therapies, relaxing heritage craft workshops and mediative art that rebalances the mind and soul.
Presenting a mixture of booked and drop-in sessions, the day is designed to create an open event that everyone can enjoy, be it with friends or in solitude to boost energy levels.
Highlights from 2023 include: Tea Blending with Matilya, Mandala Making with Zareena, Felting Nature with Gemma and Bring Your Own Vinyl in the garden. All these drop in sessions were complimented by Yoga, Sound Bath Experiences, Emotional Freedom Technique and Reflective Collage.
Andrew Metheven, a LoFi Folk musician, performed in the courtyard and continued his set for residents at Rose Cottage, a residential care home looking after people with dementia in Thornton nearby.
Funded by NHLF and VCS Alliance, this successful day attracted 128 people from all backgrounds, experiences and ages.
“I felt calm and it was a nice environment with a patient teacher. I will continue to attend these kind of events. A really lovely event for the community to access”
